w Fmcon <br /> 1433 North Market Boulevard•Sacramento,CA 95834-1943•(916)928-3300•Fax(91 6)928-3341 <br /> Api'18, 1998 <br /> Pro ject 20939-011.001 <br /> Mr. Harlin Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor <br /> Stockton, California 95202 <br /> Re: Subsurface Investigation at Intersection of Thomton Road and Walnut Grove Road, <br /> Thornton, California <br /> Dear Mr. Knoll: <br /> On behalf of San Joaquin County Department of Public Works, EMCON has prepared this <br /> workplan to perform a limited soil and groundwater investigation near the intersection of <br /> Thornton Road and Walnut Grove Road,Thornton, California. <br /> The following sections present our scope of work and project sch ule for completing this <br /> work. <br /> Task 1 - Prefield Activities <br /> EMCON will obtain boring permits, contract a driller, and not' Underground Service <br /> Alert (USA) at least 48 hours prior to marking underground utilitii s in the vicinity of the <br /> proposed boring locations. <br /> Task 2 - Field Activities <br /> EMCON will advance five exploratory soil borings at the site. The exploratory borings will be <br /> advanced using direct-push technology equipment, such as a GeoProbe or similar device. <br /> Samples will be located at 20-foot intervals to define the extent of impacted soil and <br /> groundwater. <br /> Borings will be advanced using 2-inch-diameter GeoPrObe drilling methods and soil <br /> samples collected using 2-inch-diameter Macrocore sampling equipment. Groundwater <br /> grab samples will be collected using a HydroPunch or similar tool.
