LW The asphalt concrete shall be Type A, comprised of one-half inch (1/") maximum <br /> aggregate, and medium grading. Asphalt concrete shall be produced at an established <br /> commercial mixing plant. <br /> The amount of asphalt binder to be mixed with the aggregate shall be between 4 and 7 <br /> percent by weight of the dry aggregate. The exact amount of asphalt binder to be mixed <br /> La with the aggregate will be determined by a mix design submitted by the Contractor, to <br /> be approved by the Engineer no less than 5 days prior to paving. <br /> La The asphalt binder to be mixed with the aggregate shall be a steam-refined asphalt <br /> having a viscosity grade of AR-4000. <br /> #W. The asphalt concrete shall not be placed when the atmospheric temperature is below <br /> 50'F or during unsuitable weather. <br /> LO Asphalt concrete shall be compacted to a relative compaction of not less than 95% <br /> percent and the Contractor's compaction method shall be performed as required in the <br /> Standard Specifications. All asphalt concrete shall be spread and compacted in one <br /> layer. <br /> Areas inaccessible to a roller shall be compacted by use of a power compactor of the <br /> high impact vibra plate type capable of attaining the same compaction as the rolled <br /> areas. <br /> The completed surface shall be thoroughly compacted, smooth, and true to grade and <br /> '•' cross section, free from ruts, humps, depressions, irregularities, or segregated material. <br /> Prior to placement of asphalt concrete, a paint binder of asphaltic emulsion (SS-1 h) or <br /> +r prime coat of liquid asphalt (MC-250) shall be furnished and applied uniformly to the <br /> newly placed aggregate base and vertical surfaces that are to be in contact with the <br /> newly placed asphalt concrete. If approved by the Engineer, a paving asphalt (AR- <br /> 4000) may be substituted for the paint binder or liquid asphalt. <br /> The placement temperature and application rate of the paint binder (SS-1 h), liquid <br /> .. asphalt (MC 250), or paving asphalt (AR-4000) shall be in the accordance with the <br /> Standard Specifications. <br /> ... Care shall be taken to avoid tracking binder material onto existing pavement surfaces <br /> beyond the limits of construction by closing to public traffic the areas to which the paint <br /> binder has been applied. <br /> A certificate of compliance, signed by the vendor, shall be submitted to the Engineer to <br /> certify that the binding material complies with the requirements of the Standard <br /> �.. Specifications and these special provisions. <br /> MEASUREMENT AND PAVEMENT <br /> Full compensation for conforming to the requirements of this section, not otherwise <br /> provided for, including all the labor, materials, tools, equipment, incidentals, and for <br /> a Division III-9 <br /> 4 <br />
