F ;z 3 PRELIMINARY REPORT AND TANK CLOSURr REPORT TRACY BOULEVARD SHELL 3723 TRACY BOULEVARD TRACY,CALIFORNIA DELTA PROJECT NO.4M9-012 1.0 INTRODUCTION Delta Environmental Consultants,Inc.(Delta),has been authorized by Shell Oil Company(Shell)to perform a site geologic and hydrogeologic investigation to document the closure of three underground storage tanks i at 3725 Tracy Boulevard(site),Tracy,California(Figure 1). This report summarizes the site investigative work performed to date and details the activities and results for closure of the underground storage tanks. APretark Closure Site Assessmert Report,prepared by Delta and submitted on November 22,1989,presents the results of our initial drilling activities which indicated that Stoddard solvent or alight petroleum distillate was present in soil samples collected near the water table in three soil borings. Ground water samples collected from three monitoring wells installed on the site indicated that concentrations of benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene,xylenes(BTEX),and total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)as gasoline were below analytical method detection limits. During the station reconstruction activities conducted in May and June of 1990, attempts were made to remove the soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons identified during the pretank closure assessment. However, it was impractical to remove these soils as petroleum hydrocarbons were observed at the water table in soils beneath much of the northeast portion of the site. A second round of ground water samples,collected after station reconstruction activities,also indicated that concentrations of BTEX and TPH were,below analytical method detection limits. 1.1 Purpos The purpose of this report is as follows: e Document the presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soils underlying the Basting and former underground storage tanks and product lines. o Document removal and final disposal of underground storage tanks. a Document proper closure of the former tank excavation. Document the disposal of soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons.
