5.0 QUALITY CONTROL REQUIREMENTS
This section presents QC requirements for the analysis of environmental samples that will be
followed during all project analytical activities. The purpose of the QC program is to produce
data of known quality that satisfy the project objectives and meet or exceed the requirements of
the standard methods of analysis. This program provides a mechanism for ongoing control and
evaluation of data quality measurements through the use of QC materials.
5.1 Quality Control Procedures
The chemical data to be collected will be used to determine that the extent of affected media is
properly evaluated. The data should be of the highest quality and confidence to achieve this
objective. The following QA/QC procedures will be utilized:
• Strict protocols for field sampling and decontamination procedures;
• Collection and laboratory analysis of appropriate field equipment blanks to monitor for
cross-contamination of samples in the field and laboratory;
• Collection and laboratory analysis of matrix spike, matrix spike duplicate, and field
duplicate samples to evaluate analytical precision and accuracy.
5.1.1 Equipment Decontamination
Nondedicated equipment used for sample collection will be decontaminated before and after each
sample is collected. The sampling equipment will be washed in an Alconox and potable water
solution, and double rinsed in potable water. More specific descriptions for decontamination of
nondedicated equipment, including downhole equipment, are presented in the FSP.
5.1.2 Standards
Current laboratory standards will be used to calibrate laboratory equipment or to prepare samples
and will be certified by National Institute of Standards and Technology, USEPA, or other
equivalent source. The expiration data will be established by the manufacturer, or based on
Environmental/LNC/workplan/Appendix3.wpd 7
