Area D reportedly contained detectable concentrations of TPH-g, TPH-d, 1,1,1-TCA, and TCE.
The soil beneath the concrete bunker area reportedly contained detectable concentrations of
petroleum hydrocarbons, 1,1, 1-TCA, 1,1-dichloroethene (1,1-DCE), 1,1-dichloroethane (1, 1-
DCA), and TCE.
During May 1993, WZI, Inc., conducted a limited soil investigation beneath Areas A and D, and
the concrete bunker area. A total of 20 soil samples were collected from three exploratory
trenches and six soil borings drilled by hollow-stem auger(Figure 7). This work included drilling
a second angle boring and sampling beneath the concrete bunker area. Three shallow trenches
were excavated to a depth of about 7 feet bgs in Area A in the vicinity of boring A-2. Low-level
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were reportedly detected in soil samples from the
trenches. Three additional soil borings were drilled in Area D. Soil samples from these borings
contained no detectable hydrocarbons or VOCs. Two vertical soil borings and one angle boring
were drilled in the vicinity of the concrete bunker. Soil samples from these borings contained
detectable concentrations of 1,1, I-TCA, 1, 1-DCE, 1, 1-DCA, and TCE.
4.2 Passive Soil Gas Survey
Passive soil gas surveys were conducted on and in the vicinity of LNC site by the RWQCB
between 1989 and 1993 in five separate surveys. During 1993 and 1994, the DTSC conducted
additional passive soil gas surveys in the greater City of Lodi area that include the LNC site area.
Between 1989 and 1996, a total of 533 passive soil gas samples were collected throughout the
City of Lodi of which approximately 119 passive soil gas samples were distributed throughout
the northern portion of the city. Of these, approximately 17 passive soil gas samples were
collected north of Turner Road in the vicinity of the former Italian Swiss Colony Winery and the
City of Lodi Landfill (Figure 5). In addition, three passive soil gas samples were collected on
the LNC property and an additional 24 passive soil gas samples were collected on adjoining
properties (NERI, 1996; Henshaw, 2001).
M ain\D:AEnvironmenta1\LN CV\10152007.wpd 16
