9.3 Field Quality Control Samples
To assess the quality of data from field sampling efforts, field quality control samples will be
collected. For liquid samples, field blanks and travel blanks will be submitted to the analytical
laboratory. Field duplicate samples will be submitted for both liquid and soil samples. Field
quality control samples will be handled in the same way as the original samples which they
accompany.
9.3.1 Soil Samples
Duplicate soil samples will be collected to check for variability in soil parameter levels. When a
duplicate sample is needed, a second grab sample from approximately the same soil location (or)
two of the three brass sleeves of the soil sampler will be submitted for analysis; one will be the
sample and the other the duplicate. The duplicate sample will be analyzed for the same
parameters as the sample. Ten percent of each sample type will be duplicate samples (a
minimum of one duplicate for each parameter suite).
9.3.2 Groundwater Samples
Travel Blanks
The purpose of travel blanks is to detect the introduction of contaminants during transportation
from the field to the laboratory. Travel blanks are assembled by the analytical laboratory, travel
to the field, and return to the laboratory with the samples collected for analysis. These blanks
consist of ultra-pure distilled water sealed in a clean container. One travel blank is required for
each cooler that contains samples that will be analyzed for aromatic volatile organics (USEPA
Test Method 602).
M ain\D:AEnvironmentaI\LN CV\10152007.wpd 60
