Field Blanks
Field blanks will be analyzed to detect the introduction of contaminants during sample collection.
Field blanks are prepared in the field using procedures that simulate normal sampling. A
minimum of one equipment blank will be collected for each day of sampling.
Field Duplicates
Duplicates will be collected and analyzed to check for sampling consistency and error. Duplicate
samples will be collected immediately after the primary sample from the same location with the
same equipment and procedures. Ten percent of each sample type will be duplicate samples (or a
minimum of one duplicate for each parameter suite).
Field blanks and duplicates will be analyzed for the same parameters as the samples.
9.4 Sample Numbering System
A sample numbering system will be used to identify each sample collected. This system will
provide a tracking number to allow retrieval and cross-referencing of sample information. A
listing of the sample identification numbers will be maintained in the field notebook. The
anticipated sample numbering system for the LNC site is described below.
9.4.1 Sample Type
Each sample collected during the sampling program will be identified by a two-character
alpha code:
ES-excavation sample
SS -surface soil sample
SB -subsurface soil sample from soil borings
MW-groundwater sample
WB-water blank
M ain\D:AEnvironmentaI\LN CV\10152007.wpd 61
