Section 3
Surveying and Sampling
3.1 SURVEYING
Once installed, the monitoring wells will be surveyed by KSN Inc., a qualified licensed land
surveyor. These wells will be located with regards to both the California State Plane and
Geographic Coordinate Systems, relative the North American Datum, 1983 (NAD83) and
matching existing wells at the WWTF. The elevation of the north quadrant of each PVC well
easing will be surveyed to within 1/1001h of a foot accuracy, relative to the National Geodetic
Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29) and reported as feet above mean sea level (again consistent
with the datum used for surveying the existing WWTF wells). Adjacent ground surface will also
be surveyed for reference.
Care shall be exercised during surveying to avoid introduction of foreign material into the well.
Rod or receiver bottoms shall be wiped with a chlorine solution prior to setting on well casing
for each well.
3.2 SOIL SAMPLING
No soil samples will be collected at the site of ier than those used to classify the geologic
materials penetrated by the boreholes.
Spoils from drilling will be dispersed to land.
3.3 WELL WATER SAMPLING
3.3.1 WATER LEVEL MEASUREMENTS
Depth to water measurement will be complete d and recorded, for all wells, prior to purging and
sampling. Water-level measurements will be taken with an electronic tape (sounder)and the
same sounder will be used at all monitoring1 cations, assuring reproducibility of the results.
Water levels will be recorded to the nearest 0. 1 foot and will be referenced to the surveyed
datum (north quadrant of the PVC well casing, and or notch carved into the PVC casing). Depth
to groundwater measurements will then be co verted to groundwater elevations and used to
develop a groundwater elevation contour map, in order to identify groundwater flow direction
and gradient.
3.3.2 PURGING
A minimum of three well volumes will be purged from the wells prior to sampling. Purging will
be accomplished by pumping with a portable pump or by manually bailing. Field water quality
parameters(temperature,pH, and electrical conductivity)will be collected at the beginning of
purging and after each well volume has been removed.
March 2006 1Lockeford CSD
3-1 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
