construction staking : <br /> 1. Horizontal and vertical control monuments . <br /> 2. Staking of the inner crest lines of the levees and the <br /> upper limit of the pond cut areas and fence lines to be <br /> constructed. <br /> 3 . Staking of the centerline of the access road. <br /> All other necessary survey and staking shall be provided by <br /> the Contractor . <br /> C. Survey monuments set by the Agency shall be carefully <br /> preserved by the Contractor . In case such survey monuments <br /> are destroyed or damaged they will be replaced at the <br /> District ' s earliest convenience . The Contractor will be <br /> charged for the cost of necessary replacement or restoration <br /> of survey monuments which in the judgement of the Engineer <br /> were carelessly or willfully destroyed or damaged by the <br /> Contractor ' s operations. This charge will be deducted from <br /> any monies due or to become due the Contractor . <br /> 1. 05 PROTECTION <br /> • A. Sheeting and Bracing in Excavations <br /> 1. All open excavations greater than five feet in depth <br /> shall be constructed with bracing , sheeting , shoring , <br /> sloping , or other equivalent method designed for the <br /> protection of life and limb as required by Section 6705 <br /> of the State Labor Code . Sheeting shall also be <br /> installed where specifically called for on the Drawings. <br /> The support system shall comply in all respects with the <br /> requirements of the Construction Safety Orders of the <br /> Division of Industrial Safety, or , if the system varies <br /> from that standard, it shall be designed and signed by <br /> an engineer , civil or structural, who is registered in <br /> the State of California. In any event, the system shall <br /> be no less effective than that required by the Safety <br /> Orders. <br /> 2. It shall be understood that the above stipulated <br /> requirements are to be considered to be the minimum to <br /> be provided. It shall be the Contractor ' s responsibility <br /> to provide the additional strength required to support <br /> the sides of the excavation against loads which may <br /> exceed those employed to derive the criteria set forth <br /> in the Industrial Safety Orders. The Contractor shall be <br /> solely responsible for any and all liabilities which may <br /> arise from his failure to provide the necessary support <br /> to the excavation under any an all of the conditions of <br /> EARTHWORK <br /> 02200-2 <br />
