' gTound water c0ded off site, and some residual sorbed soil Contamination
mmainod on sew. There was no evidence of free-phase product on the site greater
than a slight sheen in the existing monitor wells before the start of the
invcsbga.tion. The depth to ground water at the site is approximately 1.5 in below
' ground surface and the soils at the site are primarily composed of alluvial sands,
silts, and clays (GRAM, Inc. 1995),
' Yrvduct Dia ipdon. The product selected for use in provdL.ng oxygen to the site
was ORC*. ORCO is a patented solid form of magnesium peroxide that releases
oxygen when hydrated. The product is delivered from the manufacturer in nylon
`filter socks.' Each filter sock is composed of a tight weave polyester and contains
a 1-1 mixture of ORCO and #90 silica sand and weighs 5.7 kg (Regenesis, 1995).
' FULL-SCALE SYSTEM
As a result of the pilot study, GRAM, Inc., in conjunction with Regenesis
Bioremediation Products, designed and installed a full-scale oxygen distribution
' system to use ORC*. The purpose of the full-scale system was to evaluate the
effectiveness of a full-scale application of ORC* and, if possible, to prevent future
off-site rmgradon of dissolved phase aont-amu don The full-scale system consists
' of 20 6-inch PVC ORC source wells installed to form two permeable barriers
The location of overhead power lines prevented the installation of one continuous
bamer at the south-eastern most area of the plume A long bamer, consisting of
' 15 source wells, and a slightly off-set shorter barrier, consisting of 4 source wells,
were irLstaved The source well used fur the pilot study is part of the long barrier.
Additional source wells were installed dunng March 1995 The layout of the full-
scale system is shown in Figure 1
' E OR uO ue 410ao Ar lrq lea r7o kse !w 170 aD
! m
130-r.vwft$-11 5-WOOO e
G
NM-0-am ..
U
25Wtw WAS&1 i-Il •
no, r a a ` OQO
no Oo00000ADO
' X « p Olt lrov Y11 •'
• Y.e Jw
®fl.l=Mr 4Rt Rpl Y.0
Q
Z W Ja4 < lrJa !
