After monitoring well installation and development, the location and elevation for each well will be
' surveyed by a land surveyor licensed by the State of California
' 3.2 SAMPLING OF MONITORING WELLS
' Groundwater samples will be collected initially from the newly installed monitoring wells following
construction and development and on a quarterly basis thereafter Prior to sampling each well, the
presence of free floating PHC product will be assessed using a clear Teflon® or acrylic bailer The
water level will then be obtained using an electronic sounder Subsequently, at least three casing
volumes (up to a maximum of five casing volumes) will be purged from the well Periodic
' measurements of the temperature, pH, and specific electrical conductance will be made with field
equipment, and samples will be collected when these parameters reach relatively constant values
A clean, decontaminated Teflon® or acrylic bailer will be used to collect the water samples for
laboratory chemical analysis
Groundwater samples will be preserved and transported under chain-of-custody procedures to a
' California DHS-certified laboratory for PHC analysis Groundwater samples will be analyzed for
concentrations of BTEX using EPA Method 8020, and TPHg using EPA Method 8015m In
addition, all samples will be analyzed for the following oxygenated compounds using EPA Method
8260,tertiary butyl alcohol(TBA), methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),
ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETRE), and tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME)
Decontamination of sampling equipment will be performed before arriving at the site and between
' each well as follows
Step 1 Wash with detergent solution (non-phosphate or lab-grade detergent),
' Step 2 Control water rinse,
Step 3 Rinse with an organic desorbing agent (isopropanol, acetone, hexane, or
methanol), and,
' Step 4 Rinse with deionized water
Alternatively, in lieu of decontamination of sampling equipment, disposable bailers and cotton rope
may be used
1
1
' &Uddov vipn 7 PHILIP P.
