ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE SITE INVESTIGATION FOR PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS SITE NO. 5 (SITE CODE 1237) PORT OF STOCKTON `+ Near Port Roads 21 and N Stockton, San Joaquin County, California V i.r 1.0 INTRODUCTION This report has been prepared by Philip P.Ross,R.G., at the request of Mr. Jay Jahangiri,Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs of the Port of Stockton(Port).The report documents field +� investigation activities and summarizes findings of a subsurface investigation conducted at Site No. 5 near the southeast corner of the Port. The investigation was conducted at the request of the San Joaquin County Public Health Service,Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD)to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination found during an initial subsurface investigation conducted by the Port in August 1998. The additional subsurface investigation comprised drilling, installation, and sampling of three groundwater monitoring wells along with a survey of supply wells in the vicinity to identify potential public or environmental health threats or impacts that might result from contaminant migration from the site. A work plan for the investigation was submitted to the PHS/EHD on January 10, 1999 and approved on February 16, 1999. Preapproval of the costs for the work was received from the California Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund in April 1999. A well permit for the investigation was approved by PHS/EHD on May 14, 1999. La 2.0 SITE BACKGROUND This section presents the site description, summarizes previous site characterization work, and briefly summarizes the geologic and hydrologic characteristics of the site.
