' ARCADIS 2009/2010 Annual
Monitoring Report
' Union Pacific Railroad
Company
' Former Maintenance Facility
Quarterly—newly installed wells MW-23A, MW-24A, MW-25A, MW-26A, and Tracy,California
• MW-27A(for four quarters)
Wells TW-04, MW-06A, MW-08A, and MW-11A were not sampled during the
November 2009 or the March 2010 monitoring events because free product was
present in these wells. Presence of free product in this area is consistent with historical
observations.
4.0 Sampling Procedures
Groundwater monitoring and sampling activities were conducted by Blaine Tech
' Services, Inc. (Blaine Tech). Prior to conducting groundwater sampling, depth to
groundwater or product (if present)were measured to the nearest 0.01 foot in the
monitoring wells and piezometers using an oil-water interface probe relative to the
surveyed reference point at the top of each well casing.
' The groundwater monitoring wells at the site contain dedicated bladder pumps for well
purging and sampling, with the exception of MW-11A and TW-04.The pumps had
previously been removed from these two wells to facilitate placement of hydrophobic
' absorbent socks as part of the now-inactive product recovery program. These wells
were not sampled during the 2009/2010 reporting period because they contained free
product.Wells with dedicated bladder pumps were sampled following low-flow
' sampling procedures.
Groundwater conductivity, pH, and temperature were measured and recorded during
' well purging. Samples were generally not collected until these field parameters
stabilized. Purge water was collected in 55-gallon drums and secured in the onsite
Engine House. The purge water will be transported to an offsite, licensed disposal
' facility by UPRR's subcontracted licensed waste transportation company.
Collected groundwater samples were analyzed for the following analytes:
' total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TEPH-d) using United States
Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) Method 8015B
' halogenated and aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using USEPA
Method 82609
• TEPH-d with silica gel cleanup (TEPH-d SG) using USEPA Method 3630C (to
assess possible non-hydrocarbon related compounds)
P:V RtMIS GatePmtttsNf'rveWnion Peclfic Rellmed,RG]®-Teary YeRDNNaedeAGW M1lonllalc]t000 Tory YeNFwutl GW 200PA1PFIW1L20f621tGNnel
' P Page:2/7
