• UCT-08-1992 15:22 FROM MICHAEL PAOLI & ASSOC. TO 18232398 P.03
Mr. Greg K.Vaughn
July 31, 1992
Page 2
Spreckels' ground water consultant, Kenneth D. Schmidt and Associates, has
investigated the availability of qualified well drillers and has indicated that the new
monitoring wells could be installed in early October, pending confirmation of the
proposed plan by the Regional Board by the first of September . The Manteca factory
is scheduled to be in operation the last two weeks of October, and a round of samples
could be taken from the new wells at the end of that operating campaign. Laboratory
analysis, data review and preparation of a report would take an additional eight
weeks. The formal report would be available for submittal to the Regional Board at the
end of the first week of January, 1993. The proposed schedule may change
depending on the date of receipt of approval of the plan from the Board, the actual
factory operating period in October, and how the weather impacts our ability to harvest
sugar beets this fall.
The implementation of the ground water monitoring program for the Manteca
factory is an important first step in addressing the Board's concern regarding the use of
lime at our sugar beet factory. Should you have any questions regarding our proposal,
please do not hesitate to call me at (510)-463-3400.
Sincerely yours, /
Donald P Lovasik, P.E.
Environmental Engineer
Attachment
cc: A.J.
