KLEINFELDER ,gym.- Because the nonsaturated zone was assumed to be uncontaminated, the drill cuttings from this zone were not containerized, but-dispersed on-the-grounds Since the t'ground wate quality beneath the site was unknown, the cuttings from the saturated zone were containerized in Department of Transportation approved 55-gallon drums. Disposition of the dontainerized cuttings would be based on the analytical results collected from the monitoring wells. All augers and associated equipment were steam cleaned prior to the drilling of each C; borehole. 3.2.21 MONITORING WELL CONSTRUCTION The construction details of the ground water monitoring wells are as follows: o The well casing is constructed 'of 4-inch inside- diameter,,flush-threaded joint, Schedule 40 PVC pipe. o The wells were constructed in 10-inch diameter boreholes. o Well screen sections are perforated with 0.010-inch factory-cut slots:` ._7 �— Lo The screened section was set from approximately 5 feet above and 10 to 15 feet below the depth of where ground water was first encountered. Specific Lwell construction details are contained with the boring logs in Appendix B and on Table 1 in Appendix A. o The PVC pipe was steam=cleaned prior to installation. o The annular space between the pipe and the wall of the boring was backfilled with clean Lone Star Industries, #0/30, sand to approximately 2 feet above the top of the perforated section Approximately 15 to 25 gallons of waterl from a City of Tracy fire hydrant was used to tremie the sand pack int ooplace:7 This procedure is needed due to the fine texture of the sand because of the possibility that the sand may bridge. A sample of the water was collected, placed in an iced cooler, and transported under chain-of-custody protocol to Chemwest Analytical Laboratories, Inc. of Sacramento, California.
