McLaughlin
Dear Sir:
Dames & Moore is currently conducting a Phase Il Site Assessment for Chevron Pipe Line
Company in Tracy, California in the vicinity of Aiden Park. The Alden Park area is
located in the southwest region of Tracy, California (Plate 1) and was formerly the site of
a locomotive fuel storage reservoir facility. The former reservoir facility consisted of a
concrete-lined. circular tank. The site is now occupied by a city parkwithin a residential
area.
In the spring of 1986, concrete and subsurface oil were uncovered adjacent to the eastern
perimeter of Alden Park. During the Phase I subsurface investigation by
Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton in October 1986, concrete was found at a depth of 5-7 feet under
much of the Alden Park site.
Our work plan for Phase II has been reviewed by Mr. David L. Brent of the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board. The San Joaquin Local Health District and the
City of Tracy are also .aware of our activities. At this time, the following has been
accomplished as shown on Plate 1:
• Soil samples were collected using hand sampling equipment from depths of'2, 4
and 8 feet in the vadose zone on the property of approximately 110 homes in
the vicinity of the park to assess the extent, of soil contamination by oil.
Samples were submitted for oil and grease analysis;
• The location of the buried circular concrete slab was determined using the
hand sampling equipment toe•erform robe transects near the slab edge;
P P b
• Backhoe trenches were excavated at two locations on the slab perimeter and
at one location in the center to visually examine the concrete slab.
