C
o Final report production.
GENERAL
All work will be performed in accordance with a Health and Safety Plan pre-
pared by Dames & Moore. This Plan is attached as Appendix A. Prior to the
initiation of any drilling, boring locations will be cleared with the City of
F Tracy and the Underground Services Alert (USA). Two 20 lb Class A, $, and C
fire extinguishers with current inspection tags and in good working condition
will be present during all field work.
This work will be conducted under the direction of a registered engineer or
geologist.
LOCATE CONCRETE PERIMETER
Purpose
The purpose of this task is to confirm the exact location of the oil reser-
voir's original concrete perimeter. To accomplish this objective, we plan to
3 first use a portable probing device to locate the edge of the buried concrete
perimeter. On the basis of the probing invesigation, at least three trenches
will be excavated around the perimeter using. a backhoe.
Probing Program
The edge of the buried concrete perimeter will be located using a probing
c device operated by HanDriven Sampling Company of Antioch, California. The
device consists of a one-inch diameter steel rod which is advanced into the soil
using a hand-held gas driven hammer, similar to a jackhammer (Plate 3). The
device is operated by a two-man crew, responsible for all operations involving
the gasoline or electric powered hammer. This hand-held equipment will
` encounter increased resistance at the concrete layer, so the presence of the
concrete perimeter would be immediately apparent upon contact. We estimate the
depth of the concrete slab to be approximately 5-7 feet; therefore, the probing
x process should be rapid. Probes will be advanced under the supervision of a
' Dames & Moore geologist or engineer to a maximum depth of 15 feet. If no
concrete has been encountered at 15 feet, then it will be assumed that the loca-
JED2/H
-2-
