ql
selected soil samples from beneath the sump, but at or above the water table ,
will be submitted to a laboratory for analysis for oil and grease.
The following procedure will be followed for soil samples to be submitted
' for chemical testing: the sampler will be lined with clean 2.5-inch diameter,
2-inch long stainless steel sleeves. After retrieval from the auger and removal
s from the sampler barrel, the exposed ends of each sample sleeve will be covered
' with 2 mil teflon sheeting, sealed with plastic end caps , secured with electri-
cal tape , and labeled. The labels will include the following information:
(1) boring number; (2) sample number and depth; (3) date and time of collection;
(4) collector name; (5) site name; and (6) site location. The samples will be
stored on ice in the field and transported to the analytical laboratory in an
ice chest cooled with blue ice. Chain-of-custody records (shown on Plate 8)
will be maintained and delivered with the samples to the analytical laboratory.
Between samples, the sampler will be washed carefully ina dilute trisodium
3 phosphate solution, rinsed in fresh water and then rinsed in distilled water.
Samples will be submitted to Anatec Laboratories , Inc. of Santa Rosa,
California for oil and grease analysis. We anticipate 2 samples will be ana-
lyzed from the boring.
Between borings , the augers and sampling equipment will be steam cleaned at
an approved location in order to prevent possible cross-contamination between
borings. During previous investigations at the site, steam cleaning has been
performed at the City Maintenance Yard, approximately 5 minutes ' drive from the
park. We will verify that this site can again be used for this purpose. if
not, another appropriate site will be selected.
The following procedures will be followed for the well installation:
o A 12-inch diameter borehole will be advanced and sampled to the
appropriate depth using hollow stem auger drilling techniques;
o A capped, threaded 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC screen with machined
0.020-inch horizontal slots will be emplaced in the bottom of the bore-
hole. A minimum of 10 feet of screened section will be emplaced with
the mid-point at the water table. The screen will be steam cleaned
prior to emplacement;
JED2/H -7-
