The reservoir
facility consisted of a concrete-lined 550 foot (approximate)
. diameter circular oil storage reservoir surrounded by an
earthen firewall . An oil pumping station, owned by Tidewater
- Oil Company, was located northeast of the facility and was
connected to the oil storage reservoir by pipelines. Subse-
quent to demolition of the oil storagte facility in the early
1960 's, and prior to the area 's development into a residential
neighborhood in the late 1970'x, the area was utilized for agri-
cultural purposes.
` A subsurface investigation undertaken by J.H. Kleinfelder and
Associates in 1972 found concrete underneath much of the Alden
e Park site. Soils containing visible indications of oil were
noted on all but two of Kleinfelder 's boring logs.
In Spring of 1966, concrete and subsurface oil were uncovered
by a homeowner adjacent to the eastern perimeter 'of Alden Parr.
E 4.2 `DAMES & MODRE ACTIVITY
Dames & Moore will be conducting a site investigation to locate
the buried concrete slab and to define the extent of 'soil and
groundwater contamination by oil . Activities will include:
collection of soil samples using hand power sampling equipment ,
excavation of backhoe pits; drilling and sampling of soil borings,
well installations and groundwater sample collection.
9
6 -
