12 August 2002
AGE-NC Pro3ect No. 99-0645
of MTBE and hydrocarbons in soil at the site. The soil sample analytical results, SVE pilot test
results, conclusions and applicable recommendations, will be included in the site assessment and
feasibility report. The report will be in a format acceptable to the EHD and the CVRWQCB, and will
be reviewed and signed by a California Registered Geologist.
4.0. PROCEDURES
Procedures for soil boring and SVE well installation, SVE feasability testing, sampling, monitoring,
are outlined below. All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the
supervision of a California Registered Geologist.
4.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
The following procedures will be performed prior to any digging/drilling activities:
• Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S Coast
Guard and U S. Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985.
• Notify the PHS-EHD a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while
securing proper city/county soil boring or well permits.
• All drilling locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service
Alen (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes.
4.2. SOIL SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
The soil borings will be advanced using hollow-stem auger drilling techniques. Relatively undisturbed
soil samples will be collected in each boring using a California modified split-spoon sampler fitted
with 2-inch diameter, 6-inch long brass sleeves. Upon removal from the sampler, the sample sleeves
will be separated with a clean knife. The exposed ends of the second sleeve will be covered with
Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each soil sample will be labeled with boring location,
depth. time, date and sampler's initials following sample collection. Soil samples will be placed in a
chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DHS-certified
laboratory.
Advanced tcoEnvironmental,Inc.
