Site Health and Safety Plan <br /> ENSAFE RS&H <br /> Stockton Metropolitan Airport, Stockton, California <br /> January 27, 2020 <br /> 7.0 SITE HAZARDS <br /> The site hazards can be categorized into three broad areas: physical, chemical, and process. The <br /> hazards described in this section are the known hazards that exist on the site. Throughout the <br /> project, conditions and hazards will change. EnSafe uses the Safe Work Assessment and Permit <br /> (SWAP) process to document daily activities, identify hazards associated with those activities, and <br /> institute control measures. Using the process of"Think Things Through", or"T3"as part of the SWAP <br /> will reduce the risk of incident associated with the hazards. <br /> 7.1 Physical Hazards <br /> Field personnel should be aware of and act to minimize dangers associated with physical hazards <br /> typically encountered during environmental remediation projects. These hazards may include low <br /> temperatures, high-noise areas, lifting, biological (reptiles, insects, plants), and use of heavy <br /> equipment. <br /> Personnel are required to walk at all times as running greatly increases the probability of slips, trips, <br /> and falls. Hazards such as uneven terrain, curbs, deteriorating foundations,tangled vegetation within <br /> the wetlands, and fallen branches can result in an incident if not identified and controlled. Avoiding <br /> these areas may not be possible based on the need to access certain areas. To reduce the risk, <br /> personnel must have proper foot wear (e.g. work boots, rubber boots, and waders), continually scan <br /> the area while walking, face the direction of travel, and avoid distractions. <br /> 7.1.1 Underground Utilities <br /> The project manager (or designated representative) shall contact the required state, county, or local <br /> utility companies to locate all underground utilities before conducting any invasive activities. All <br /> underground utility markers will be maintained throughout the length of the project and exercise <br /> extreme caution when digging around all utilities. Specifically, the PM shall utilize the EnSafe <br /> Subsurface Utility Checklistto document the subsurface utility location activities. <br /> 7.1.2 Procedures for Cold and Hot Weather <br /> The SSHO will evaluate the expected temperature for the day before arriving at the Site. If the initial <br /> ambient air temperature is indicated to be below 43°F or above 70°F, site workers will be monitored <br /> for cold and heat exposure. <br /> 17 <br />
