File No. 20-3978-0l.W23 KLEINFELDER
February 6, 1997
SCOPE OF WORK
Drilling Permit and Workplan Submittal
Kleinfelder will install three monitoring wells in borings advanced by truck mounted drill rig.
The San Joaquin County (PHS/EHD) requires a workplan and permit application for the
installation of monitoring wells. The proposed monitoring well installations will require
permits, and a workplan will be submitted to the San Joaquin County PHS/EHD for review.
Kleinfelder will also prepare a health and safety plan for use in the field. The health and
safety plan will be included as part of the workplan.
Monitoring Well Installation and Soil Sample Collection
Six monitoring wells will be installed at the approximate locations shown on Plates 2 and 3.
Groundwater is currently estimated to be at a depth of 10 to 20 feet based on our recent
assessments at the site. The monitoring wells will be installed using a truck-mounted drill rig
equipped with 8-inch hollow stem augers. Soil samples will be collected at a depth of 5 feet
and at 5 foot intervals. The soil samples collected will be field screened using an organic
vapor detector as described in Attachment B. The borings will be drilled, logged, and
sampled following the protocol described in Attachment B. Two-inch wells will be
constructed in the borings, as described in Appendix B, Section B-3.1. The wells will be
screened from 5 feet above to 10 feet below first encountered groundwater.
Soil cuttings generated while drilling will be placed on and covered by visqueen and stored on
site pending chemical analysis. Water generated during steam cleaning of auger and/or
equipment, and development/sampling of the wells will be left on site in labeled 55-gallon
drums. Analysis and disposal of drill cutting and steam cleaning water is not included in this
proposal
Well Development and Surveying
Twenty-four to 48 hours after installation, the three monitoring wells will be developed to
remove sediment-laden water and to increase the hydraulic radius of the wells. Development
will be performed as described in Attachment B, Sections B-3.2 through B-3.3.
Once the wells are installed, the top of each well will be surveyed so that depth-to-
groundwater measurements in the wells can be converted to groundwater elevations used to
assess groundwater gradients. The wells will be surveyed relative to a local benchmark. If a
local benchmark is not available near the site, the wells will be surveyed relative to an on-site,
assumed benchmark with an assigned elevation. The wells will be surveyed as described in
Attachment B, Section B-3.4.
20-3978-Ol.W23/207PE047 Pn,Qe 3 nf'8 01997, Kleinfelder, Inc.
