ACME-STOCKTON GALVANIZING WOrtKS <br /> HAZARDOUS WASTE INVESTIGATION <br /> Fact Sheet No. 2 <br /> August 1988 <br /> ENFERMIT/SERV C HEALTH <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Hydrotech Consultants, Inc. is <br /> conducting an environmental <br /> investigation at the Acme-Stockton <br /> Galvanizing Works site located. at <br /> 540 West Scotts Avenue in <br /> Stockton, California (see IDS <br /> vicinity map) . This site has MOIEOD <br /> been identified as a hazardous LAKE <br /> waste site by the California <br /> Department of Health Services (DHS ) . <br /> Hydrotech has been retained by <br /> Acme Galvanizing Company, Inc. <br /> (owner of the site) to investigate sLO <br /> M <br /> the extent and severity of <br /> AD <br /> hazardous waste on the site. SITE <br /> OPEKA <br /> This fact sheet summarizes <br /> the findings of previous c <br /> studies, includes a brief : <br /> description of the site, <br /> and describes the actions that <br /> will be undertaken during the ` <br /> investigation. The fact sheet is <br /> part of an ongoing Community <br /> Relations Plan that is designed VICINITY MAP <br /> to inform the community-at-large <br /> of the investigation process and <br /> to provide open channels of <br /> communication and cooperation <br /> between the community, elected <br /> officials and the Department of <br /> Health Services during the term <br /> of the project. <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> The site was used for galvanizing metal parts using chemical <br /> baths and molten zinc. Galvanizing is the process of coating <br /> metal with zinc. Galvanized metal parts are desirable because <br /> they inhibit rust and are relatively non-toxic. The chemicals <br /> used onsite included sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, caustic <br /> soda, and zinc metal. <br /> Hydrotech Consultants, Inc. `�.M <br />
