Mr. Anthony Saara
Page 2
April 14, 1988
Why will it take thirty days for the field investigation when you
anticipate 3 to 4 days in the field?
3 . Figures 2 and 5. Site maps must be accurate, with dimensions
and a scale.
4 . Page 3 , section 2 . 1. 1 . What were the amounts of sulfuric
acid and zinc that were released in the two leakage events? How
were materials brought on site? If stored on-site before use,
where and how.
5 . Page 5, section 2 . 1. 2 . Include in reports or submit before
completing reports; the raw data, including, but not limited to,
well and boring logs, and laboratory analysis data.
Is the well log mentioned the only one available for the area?
Include a copy of the Spring 1987 water well elevation contour
map mentioned in the Workplan.
6 . Page 6, section 2 . 1. 3 . There is a private residence at one
corner of the block that the site is on that is not mentioned.
Environmentally sensitive receptors could include, but not be
limited to, the people that live adjacent to the site. The
potential migration pathways should be identified at this point,
such as the location and configuration of storm drainage systems
and most likely surface runoff pathways.
7 . Page 9 , Section 2 . 2 . We require that blind duplicates of
soil and water samples be taken for at least (not approximately)
5% of samples taken or one per daily batch, which ever is
greater. We will require one composite sample equipment blank
for each sampling day.
8 . Page 10, section 2 . 2 . 1. It is unclear whether consideration
has been given to the size of the drill rig that is to be used.
Because drilling problems have been encountered at the site in
the past, we hope that the drill rig used will be adequate for
the job so that time will not be wasted scheduling a larger rig
to complete the borings.
What length of soil sampler will be used?
9 . Page 10 ; section 2 . 2 . 1 (a) , last paragraph. I am unable to
understand this paragraph, be more specific. I was not able to
find an example of a boring log form in Attachment C.
10. Page 11, section 2 . 2 . 1 (a) and page 14 . section 2 . 2 . 1 (b) ,
Include date, time, preservative indication, analysis required,
and use some type of closure seal as proof that the containers
were not opened before arriving at the laboratory.
