APPENDIX C
Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon,LLC June 30,2011
Report of Waste Discharge—Groundwater Sampling Plan Page S of 7
LABORATORY ANALYSIS PLAN
This section describes the procedures for completing successful laboratory analyses of the samples
that are collected from the site.
Trip blanks, equipment blanks, blind duplicate samples, and field blanks provide quality
assurance/quality control measures for the monitoring program.
TRIP BLANKS
Trip blanks are used to detect contamination that may be introduced in the field(either atmospheric
or from sampling equipment), in transit(to or from the sampling site), or in the bottle preparation,
sample log-in, or sample storage stages at the laboratory. Laboratory method blanks are used during
the analytical process to detect any laboratory-introduced contamination that may occur during
analysis.
Trip blanks are samples of organic-free water(e.g., deionized)prepared at the laboratory. They
remain with the sample bottles while in transit to the site, during sampling, and during the return trip
to the laboratory. Trip blank sample bottles must not be opened at any time during this process.
Upon return to the laboratory, trip blanks will be analyzed using the same procedures and methods
that are used for the collected field samples.
Trip blank results will be reported in the laboratory results as separate samples, using the
designations TB-(well#) as their sample point designation.
BLIND DUPLICATE
Blind duplicate samples can be collected immediately following collection of the primary sample to
check the consistency of the analytical results.
EQUIPMENT BLANKS
Equipment blank samples are collected from rinsing a disposable bailer with laboratory supplied
deionized water. Equipment blank samples are collected to insure the equipment is not
contaminating the sample and thus giving false detections.
FIELD BLANKS
Field blank samples are prepared on site using laboratory supplied certified deionized water. Field
blank samples are used to assess whether or not atmospheric conditions may be contaminating
samples.
010070.00, Task I Lawrence&Associates
w:Iclientsldiamond pet foods1010107.00-ripon rowdldiamondpet_rowd_june2011 draft.docx
