After further review of your previous responses regarding how Pep Boys stores and manages its drained metal
oil filters, it is my understanding that the facility drains the metal filters by crushing them, stores them onsite,
and then ships them off-site for disposal as non-RCRA hazardous waste. Since the facility disposes the drained
metal filters as hazardous waste, rather than recycling them, the on-site storage drums must meet the labeling
requirements for hazardous waste, specifically labeled with the words "Hazardous Waste", name and address
of generator, hazardous properties, physical state, composition (contents), accumulation start date.
Also, since the drained metal oil filters are disposed as hazardous waste, the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest
(UHWM) tracking number is required to be included on the consolidated manifests from World Oil.
Please verify my understanding above, and confirm that the facility will label the drained metal oil filters as
required by hazardous waste regulations, and the consolidated manifests will include the UHWM tracking number.
2. For clarification, please confirm if the cleaned -up brake shavings are going to be disposed as hazardous waste.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Elianna Florido, REHS
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Registered Environmental Health Specialist
1868 East Hazelton Ave
Stockton, CA 95205
P: (209) 468-0343 1 F: (209) 468-3433 1 E: eflorido@sogov.org
Please note that my email has changed to eflorido@sigov.org
4.1r SANJOAQUIN
lriI'llkle,
COUNTY -Greatness grows here.
From: Abraham, David <David Abraham@pepboys.com>
Sent: Friday, April 3, 2020 2:57 PM
To: Florido, Elianna <eflorido@sigov.org>
Cc: SVCMNGR0711 <SVCMNGR0711@pepboys.com>; MNGR0711 <MNGR0711@pepboys.com>; Guadalupe, Denise
<Denise Guadalupe@pepboys.com>; Vasquez, Fernando <Fernando Vasquez@pepboys.com>
Subject: RE: Pep Boys #711 - 2020 Haz Waste Inspection
Elianna, here are the documents and pictures requested.
