Section 3 <br /> Monitoring Well Design <br /> The proposed replacement well design and existing well destruction are depicted in Figure 3-1. New <br /> casing,caps and screen shall be 2-inch diameter,internally threaded Schedule 40 PVC pipe <br /> conforming to ASTM F480.Well screen shall be factory slotted,0.02-inch slots at a total length of <br /> 1525 feet. Sand filter shall be No.3 Monterey silica sand,placed to the depth of the well to 1 foot2 <br /> feet above the well screen,and providing an approximate 2-3/4 inch thickness in the annular space <br /> between screen and bore wall. Bentonite shall be used to seal the annular space to within 2 feet of the <br /> surface consisting of NSF certified bentonite. Installation of the well casing and screen that the filter <br /> pack bentonite seal and neat cement will be installed using a tremie pipe. Water used for making <br /> grout shall be potable. The upper 2 feet shall be sealed using a neat cement grout which provides a <br /> minimum 1-foot thickness around the casing. Casing shall be placed to approximately 1.5 feet above <br /> the ground surfaced and plugged with a locking,expandable gasket plug. A minimum 6 inch steel <br /> locking surface monument shall be placed over the well with clearance for the plug mechanism and <br /> lock and founded in the surface seal to a minimum depth of 2 feet. A 4 foot by 4 foot by 4 inch thick <br /> concrete pad shall be poured around the well cover,sloping away from the well to ensure positive <br /> surface drainage.
