Other than having a shallower seal,MW-5 is constructed similar to other nearby monitoring wells and
is completed in similar formation as wells such as MW-10 and MW-I 1. Likewise, general mineral
chemistry of groundwater from MW-5 is similar to general mineral chemistry of wells indicated to be
near the groundwater mound beneath the wastewater treatment and disposal facilities(i.e.,MW-4 and
MW-8) as indicated in the broad grouping of characteristics depicted in the Piper Diagram shown in
Figure 1-3.
Comparing the proportion of deuterium(82H)to chloride,as a means to evaluate relative effects of
evaporation of evapotranspiration of source water and groundwater,Figure 1-4 indicates similar
characteristics for these parameters of MW-5 with MW-1,MW-2,MW-3,MW-9,and MW-10.
Because of the general similarity of MW-5 characteristics with the characteristics of data from several
of the other site monitoring wells, it is presumed that the consistent total coliform results following
disinfection of MW-5 area result of other factors. Such factors could include, but may not be limited
to,a shallow surface seal or some well defect(casing or seal)promoting migration of surface
biological contaminants to the zone monitored. Because of these characteristics, replacement of MW-
5 is proposed within close(2530 feet)proximity to the existing well site. The replacement well is
proposed to be constructed with a surface seal similar to the seals depth used on other site monitoring
wells.
JNy 2015 Conformed with 21 October 2015 Condifional Approval 5 MW-5 Replacement
City of Riverbank WWT Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
