  T
Mr. Michael hifurna • •
May 26, 2011
Page 2
Applications for San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD)permits
for the borings and associated required forms are attached. SJCEHD will be notified in advance of
any drilling activities and utility clearances will be obtained prior to drilling. SJCEHD will be
notified in advance of any deviations from this work plan; verbal approval will be obtained from
SJCEHD prior to implementing any deviations from the approved protocol. All work will be
performed under the direction of a California-Registered Professional Geologist.
Drilling will be performed using a Geoprobe rig which is a direct-push unit. The rig will be
operated by Environmental Control Associates, Inc. (C-57 License# 695970) The rig pushed a 2-
inch diameter steel probe with an internal acetate sleeve. Relatively undisturbed soil samples are
retained within the sleeve. Sections of the sleeve designated for laboratory analysis will be cut,
covered with Teflon liner material and plastic caps, sealed with duct tape, labeled, and placed into
iced storage. Samples will be entered onto a chain of custody form which will accompany the
samples to the laboratory.
Soils encountered within the borings will be logged using the Unified Soil Classification
System. A photoionizing hydrocarbon vapor meter will be used to assess the possible presence of
volatile hydrocarbons in the soil encountered. Sampling equipment will be cleaned using a potable
water/Alconox solution with a potable water rinse. Each sample liner will be new and unused.
X1 Lou
Borings will be backfilled with bentonite pellets(hydrated) and capped with concrete flush
with the surrounding concrete flooring. Due to the direct-push method proposed, minimal
investigation-derived waste will be produced. All sample material will be retained for future
evaluation and/or additional analyses. Rinse water and used PPE (gloves)will be transported offsite
and disposed of in accordance with all applicable State and federal regulations.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State-certified analytical laboratory for total lead
using EPA Method 7421 and for total petroleum hydrocarbons as paint thinner/Stoddard solvent
using EPA Method 8015 (modified).
All field work will be performed in accordance with the attached Site Safety Plan.
2910-29
