1
INANKER$ p[$GNEf6iM15
wells Subsequent quarterly groundwater monitoring results indicated that the highest
concentrations of hydrocarbons were present in downgradient monitor wells MW-7 and MW-8
Following the Phase II investigation, monitor wells MW-2 and MW-3 went dry due to a
' subsidence in the regional groundwater table These wells were abandoned and replaced with
deeper wells (MW-2A and MW-3A) in 1995 during the Phase III investigation. Soil samples
were collected from the bore holes of the new monitor wells During the installation of monitor
well MW-2A, free product was observed in soil and groundwater Petroleum hydrocarbons
' were not detected in soil or groundwater samples collected from monitor well MW-3A
The general approach for the Phase IV investigation was discussed in a meeting held on 12
' January 1996 with Ms Mary Ways of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division (EHD)
1.2 SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of the Phase IV investigation includes 1) obtaining permits for the work, 2) notifying
a utility locating service to ensure that buried utility lines near the proposed boring locations are
clearly marked, 3) conducting a geophysical survey to clear boring locations of subsurface
obstructions, 4) installing groundwater monitor well MW-9 and completing soil boring BH-13,
5) collecting soil samples from the new monitor well bore hole and from one additional bore
hole (BH-13), 6) collecting a grab groundwater sample from boring BH-13, and 7) preparing
a report of findings and conclusions of subsurface conditions at 145 South Sutter Street.
As agreed during the 12 January 1996 meeting, the scope of the Quarterly Groundwater
Monitoring program includes the collection of groundwater samples on the following schedule
First Quarter MW-2A and MW-9
Second Quarter MW-2A, MW-3A, MW-4, MW-6, MW-7, and MW-9
Third Quarter MW-2A and MW-9
Fourth Quarter MW-2A, MW-3A, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7, and MW-9
A report of the findings and conclusions of groundwater conditions at the site will be issued
following each quarterly groundwater monitoring event These reports will include summaries
of all analytical results
UPROjECTS%SAN10Q\HSA%VP 2
