LLNL-AM-428479 <br /> 4. Notify the WAA Coordinator or WAA Operator and ES&H Team Environmental <br /> Analyst. <br /> 5. If safe, eliminate ignition sources. <br /> 6. Cordon off the release area to prevent access to the area. <br /> Steps 7 through 11 shall be taken only if it is safe and must be carried out by at least <br /> two individuals who have been trained. Whenever possible, the area H&S Technician <br /> should be contacted to provide safety oversight and assistance in the cleanup of a spill. <br /> 7. Contain the spill using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) (see <br /> Appendix A), absorbent (see Appendices B and C), or by other appropriate <br /> means. <br /> 8. Clean up the spill. <br /> 9. Properly dispose of spent cleanup materials such as absorbents and rags; <br /> manage them as hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste as appropriate. <br /> 10. Decontaminate response equipment (see Section 4.3.1), and restock spill <br /> response supplies before operations resume. <br /> 11. Resume normal operations after the area is inspected by the ES&H Team <br /> Environmental Analyst, Facility Manager or WAA Coordinator, and the H&S <br /> Technician. <br /> Note: If there is any uncertainty about safely managing the release, immediately call <br /> the Fire Department Dispatch at extension 911 or use a handheld radio, call sign <br /> "MIKE", to contact the CAS Operator. <br /> 4.2.4.2 Procedures to Stop and Contain Waste in the Event of a Large Incident <br /> In the event of a large waste release, the Contingency Plan shall be implemented as <br /> specified in Section 1.2 by calling the Fire Department. <br /> The WAA Operator must: <br /> 1. Stop waste container handling operations. <br /> 2. Initiate the following onsite response activities: <br /> A. Dial extension 911 to contact the Fire Department Dispatch, or use a <br /> handheld radio, call sign "MIKE", to contact the CAS Operator. <br /> B. Identify his/her name. <br /> C. Give the location of release (including the fact that it is at Site 300) and any <br /> injured parties. Include WAA number, cross streets, and significant <br /> landmarks. <br /> D. Indicate the nature of the release, if known (i.e., material identification, <br /> quantity, and extent of release). <br /> E. Remain on the phone (if it is safe to do so) to verify the information given to <br /> the Fire Department and receive further instructions. <br /> S300 WAA Contingency Plan 15 September2018 <br />
