r21 August 2000
• AGE-NC Project No 97-0343
the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-
custody to Alpha Analytical Laboratories,Inc (AAL) The samples were analyzed for the following
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
' accordance with EPA Methods 5030/8015-modified for fuels,
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTE&X)in accordance with EPA Method
602/8020, and
• Fuel oxygenates methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), Diisopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl
tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA)
1n accordance with EPA Method 8260B
I3.0. FINDINGS
3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
At the time of the July 2000 sampling event, depths to ground water ranged from 43 88 feet to 44 38
feet below the tops of the well casings Ground water elevations at the site ranged from 18 52 feet
below mean sea level(MSL)in wells MW2 and MW3 to 18 54 feet below MSL in well MW I (Table
1) Relative ground water elevations at the site decreased an average of 11 59 feet since the March
2000 monitoring event During this monitoring event, the depths to ground water in the wells were
approximately 8 88 to 9 88 feet below the tops of the well screens, indicating that the wells are
screened properly and yield representative ground water samples
The ground water is flowing to the northeast with hydraulic gradient of 0 001 feet/feet or 0 06
degrees Figure 3 illustrates the contoured ground water elevations as measured on 25 July 2000
3 2 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in all three ground water samples at concentrations ranging from 1,000µg/1 in
MW 1 to 13,000 µg/1 In MW2 TPH-d was also detected in all three ground water samples at
concentrations ranging from 300µg/l in MW3 to 2,600 µg/l in MW2
Benzene was detected in the three water samples at concentrations ranging from 0 52 µg/1 in MW 1
to 14 µg/l in MW2 Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were also detected in the three samples at
concentrations as high as 1,100µg/1(xylenes In sample MW2) No fuel oxygenated compounds were
detected above laboratory reporting limits in the ground water analysis
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
