. 30 December 1997 AGE-NC Project No 97-0343 Page 4 of 6 3 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS A total of 21 soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g, TPH-d) in accordance with method 5030/8015m and for volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes, BTE&X) with methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with modified EPA Method 8260 40 FINDINGS 41, STRATIGRAPHY Silt and silty clay were encountered in B 1 at 5 feet, 10 feet, and 45 through 60 feet bsg, in 132 and B3 at 5 through 15 feet, and 25 feet and 30 feet bsg, in B4 at 5 throu h 30 feet, and in B5 at 5 feet, 10 feet, 25 feet and 30 feet bsg sand c untered in B1 at 15 feet t rough 40 feet bsg, in I B2 and B3 at 20 feet bsg, and in B5 at 15 feet and 20 feet bsg Silty san was not encountered in probing B4 Boring logs are included in Appendix A Figures 3 an show the vertical and lateral distribution of soil composition in the area of the borings ,moo SA„l� 42 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES Organic vapor was detected in soil samples collected from B1 between 5 feet and 55 feet bsg at concentrations as high as 667 parts per million(ppm), from between 5 feet and 35 feet bsg in 133 at concentrations as high as 770 ppm, and from between 15 feet and 30 feet in B5 at concentrations as high as 840 ppm Neither organic vapor nor hydrocarbon odor were encountered in any soil samples collected from probings B2 and B4 TPH-g was detected in samples from Bl, B3 and B5 at concentrations as high as 14,000 ppm (reported as milligrams per kilogram) Benzene was detected in only one sample (B 1-40), which contained a concentration of 0 042 pprn Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in samples from B 1, B3 and B5 at concentrations as high as 1,600 ppm(xylenes in B5-25) TPH-d was detected in samples from B1, B3 and B5 at concentrations as high as 12,000 ppm (133-10, 133-15) None of the samples analyzed from borings B2 or B4 contained detectable concentrations of TPH-g, I TPH-d, BTE&X or MTBE The analytical results by EPA analytical methods 8015-m and 8020 as shown in Table 1 The areal distributions of TPH-g and TPH-d are shown in Figure 5 The vertical [ distribution of TPH-g is shown on Figures 3 and 4 Anal volatile organic compounds b EPA Method 8260 detected n-butyl .
