k
. 03 July 1997
AGE-NC Project No 97-0343
soil probe boring will be advanced within the former UST excavation If necessary, additional soil
probe borings will be advanced to adequately characterize the lateral and vertical extent of
hydrocarbon-impacted soil
Based upon the estimated depth to ground water at the site,we do not anticipate encountering ground
water during this investigation However, if encountered, at least one ground water sample will be
collected and analyzed
3 1 PROBING AND SAMPLING
Soil probe borings will be advanced using a Geoprobe 5400 soil probing unit equipped with 1 125-
inch diameter probe rods and an attached 2 15-inch diameter soil sampler Probe borings will be
advanced near the former UST area Proposed soil probe boring location is illustrated on Figuie 2
Discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 5-feet bsg using
a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with four pre-cleaned 1 125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves
• Soil samples will be preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets,
capping and sealing with tape Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following information
soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials
Initially, soil samples will be collected from to a depth of 30 feet bsg If petroleum hydrocarbon-
impacted soil is encountered during probing activities, probe borings mdy be advanced to greater
depths in an attempt to determine the extent impacted soil
If encountered, grab ground water samples will be collected from selected probe borings Giab
ground water samples will be collected from selected soil probe borings using a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly For the sampling assembly, probe rods will be fitted with a ietiactable ground
water screen and advanced to the total depth of each probe boring, the rods will then be pulled
upwaid to allow ground water to flow into the screen
A bailer fitting will then be placed on the end of 3/a-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, inserted
through the rod assembly into the exposed screen, through which water will be manually pumped
32 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All probing rods, sampling tools and sample liners used for sample collection will be thoroughly
rinsed with clean water after washing with a solution of Alconox
Ad►anced CeoEnvironrnental,Inc
