• . <br /> . 43 July 1997 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 97-0343 <br /> Page 4 of 5 <br /> 33 LABORATORY ANALYSIS <br /> Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and <br /> diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d), volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes <br /> BTE&X), and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and <br /> 8020/602 Laboratory reports and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a <br /> report with the findings and recommendations Soil samples will be selected foi analysis based upon <br /> field observations <br /> 4.0 PROCEDURES <br /> 41 ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL PROBE BORINGS <br /> The following procedures will be performed for the installation of probings <br /> I Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work <br /> • 2 Initially, advance one (1) soil probe boring at the site to a depth of approximately 30 feet bsg <br /> If petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil is encountered during probing activities, probe <br /> borings may be advanced to greater depths in an attempt to determine the extent impacted <br /> soil <br /> 3 Probe borings will using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit equipped with 1 125-inch <br /> diameter rods Proposed probe boring location is depicted on Figure 2 <br /> 4 Decontaminate sampling equipment in an Alconox solution and rinse with water prior to <br /> each sampling iun <br /> 5 Obtain soil samples at five foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly pie- <br /> loaded with four 1 125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves <br /> 6 Preserve soil samples in the second brass sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon sheets, <br /> capping, and sealing with tape Each sample will be labeled with the following site location, <br /> sample identification, depth, time and date <br /> 7 Document samples on a chain-of-custody form <br /> 8 Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a State-certified laboratory for analysis <br /> 9 Monitor soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization <br /> detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene <br /> . 10 Log soil sample duplicates in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System <br /> Adt,amced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
