1
1d
semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs) common in petroleum hydrocarbons. These may
include benzene, ethyl benzene, toluene and xylenes. These contaminants may have
deleterious effects on the central nervous system, respiratory system, blood-forming tissues
liver and kidneys if exposure to high levels of airborne contaminants occurs. Contact with
' wet product can also result in skin irritation. The airborne concentrations encountered during
this project are expected to be extremely low.
r
Personnel working on the site may also be exposed to diesel and gasoline exhaust from the
' trucks and machinery in use during project activities. As the area is outside and therefore
well ventilated exhaust levels should not reach concentrations capable of causin My adverse
health effects. Symptoms of exposure to high levels of exhaust include nausea, headache,
dizziness, coughing and irritation of the eyes and upper respiratory system.
Activities required during the project may result in some slight exposure of site workers and
visitors to substances that have been determined by the State of California to cause cancer,
birth defects or other reproductive harm. The State of California's Safe Drinking Water and
Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) requires notification to all persons who may
be exposed to such chemicals. These substances are described in Tables 1 and 2 of this
HASP.
The contaminants which may be present on site that have been determined by the State to
rcause cancer include:
• benzene.
rIn addition, the following contaminants on site have been determined by the State to cause
1 reproductive harm: .
• benzene.
r
3.2.4 Drilling Hazards
rAll persons involved in drilling activities must be aware of the potential for equipment
contacting any overhead power lines. Additionally, underground utilities, including water, gas
' and electrical lines, may be present. The potential for electrocution, equipment damage and
and disruption of services for residents and businesses exists.
MZ*5-o9-94Nsr194-oo6a 3_2
r
