' Operation and maintenance of the drill rig also presents the hazards ofettin ht in or
g g caught
struck by moving parts of the machinery.
3-Z.5 Confined Space Entry
It is not anticipated that any work conducted during this project will require entry into a
confined space. A confined space is defined as an enclosure which is large enough for an
employee to enter, but which has limited means of access and egress and is not designed for
continuous employee occupancy.
' A permit-required confined ace is a confined ace as defined above which also contains
Pe mq space space
one or more health and/or safety hazards. This can include chemical, mechanical, electrical,
or other hazards. The potential for a hazardous atmosphere is also present.
3.2.6 Noise
Some of the equipment used on the project generates loud noise. Exposure to sound levels
above 85 dBA can cause temporary impairment of heating. Prolonged and repeated exposure
to sound levels above $5 dBA can cause permanent hearing damage. The risk and severity of
hearing loss increases with the intensity and duration of the exposure. In addition to
damaging hearing, noise can impair voice communication, thereby increasing the risk of
incidents.
3.2.7 Heat and Cold Stress
Heat and cold stress should not be a problem due to the moderate climate at the site. Should
weather become unseasonably warm, workers should be aware that wearing personal
protective equipment (PPE) can put site personnel at considerable risk of heat stress and heat
related illnesses if proper precautions are not implemented. Heat related illnesses range from
transient heat fatigue to heat stroke and death. Heat related illnesses are caused by a number
of interacting factors which include environmental conditions, clothing, work load, and
' characteristics of the individual worker.
Operations will require IT and subcontractor employees to work outside during daylight
hours, typically seven to nine hours per day. Under these conditions, workers are at great risk
for developing sunburn on unprotected skin.
MZI0-5I- 94NSTJ94 W4 3-3
