The Lead Driller will be responsible for <br /> operating the drilling rig and ensuring safety. <br /> General rules associated with drilling rig operations will be as follows: <br /> • An "Exclusion Zone" will be established around the drilling rig using barricade <br /> tape or other type of physical barrier, <br /> • All operators and crew members will be familiar with the rig operations and will <br /> have received practical training; <br /> • Procedures for equipment and tool decontamination will be followed. <br /> • Hard hats are required when working within the drilling rig work zone; <br /> • Goggles or safety glasses with side shields will be wom when operating power <br /> tools, sanding, grinding, hammering, or filing; <br /> • No loose fitting clothing, jewelry, or free long hair is permitted near the dulling <br /> rig or moving machinery parts; <br /> • Hands and loose clothing must be kept away from moving parts of the <br /> machinery; <br /> • Drilling must cease immediately if combustible gas concentrations greater than <br /> 50% of the LEL are detected at the borehole; <br /> • A first aid kit and fire extinguisher will be available at all times. Firefighting <br /> equipment should not be tampered with and should not be removed for other <br /> than the intended firefighting purposes or for servicing; <br /> • The offgomg driller will inform the oncoming driller of any special hazards or <br /> ongoing work that may affect the safety of the crew; <br /> t • If lubrication fittings are not accessible with guards in place, machinery should <br /> be stopped for oil and greasing; <br /> • Rigging equipment for material handling should be checked prior to use on each <br /> shift and as often as necessary to ensure it is safe. Defective rigging shall be <br /> removed from service immediately; <br /> • The area around the derrick ladder should be kept clear to provide unimpeded <br /> t access to the ladder; <br /> • Work areas and walkways should not be obstructed; <br /> • The work area around the borehole shall be kept free of obstructions, and free of <br /> 1 undue accumulation of oil, water, ice or circulating fluids; <br /> • No drilling will occur during impending electrical storms or tornados, or when <br /> rain, ice, snow, or wind conditions create undue potential hazards; <br /> • One worker shall not lift auger flights by himself or attempt to carry equipment <br /> or materials of excessive weight; <br /> • The driller will not attempt to reach a well or borehole location in a manner that <br /> compromises the safety of the rig or crew; <br /> • All well or borehole locations will be inspected by the drill crew to ensure that a <br />' stable surface exists; <br /> • The drill rig will be properly blocked and levelled prior to raising the mast; <br /> mos-09-94/USTtN-0064 4-4 <br /> 1 - <br />
