our expanded facility because of the avai 1 abl i ty of land
which could be purchased on the perimeter of the airport ,
the lenght of its runway, and because it is close in
proximity to our current location . If we are not allowed
' through—the—fenceaccess to the Stockton airport , then
there is no reason for Aero Turbine to move to Stockton .
n . Any air emissions that the project could generate?
The only air emissions from this project would be the
exhaust from various aircraft and test engines.
o. Any substantial site alteration that may be required?
I believe that the ground will require fill and grading
because the site is located in a flood area. - This
question will be better answered by the engineering firm
of Quartaroli and Associates.
If I may, I would like this opportunity to make a few comments.
It would seem that there is still some misunderstanding as what Aero
Turbine does as a business. We are in the business of overhauling
aircraft jet engines and their component parts. We , also, manufacture
spare parts for aircraft jet engines. We actually overhaul only one or
two whole engines per year . Most of our business is in component -
parts. The engines and components we overhaul are sent to us via ' -
commercial truck . We perform the overhaul and return the engines
and/or components via commercial truck . In the case where we
manufacture parts, we deliver those parts via commercial truck . In our
current situation , there is no reason for us to be located on or near
an airport . We have been in our current location , without the benefit
of an airport , for nearly eight (8) years. None of the engines or
components we work on are delivered to us by aircraft .
What we are trying to do at Stockton is this: build an aircraft
maintenance facility which will allow us to expand our current
operations to include airframe repair . It is our desire to expand into
the airframe repair which makes locating next to a runway necessary.
Also, we would like to locate our engine repair and manufacturing
facility next to the maintenance hangar . If we cannot find a suitable
location , next to a runway, then we will simply not move from our
present location .
Approximately ninety percent (?8%) of our engine and component
business is in government contracts. This, also, would be true for the
airframe work we wish to pursue . This kind of business generates a
small volume , but large dollars. A good example of this kind of
contract would be a recent Navy contract for the overhaul of fifty
(58) F86 aircraft . This contract was approximately $28 million over a
five year period. These particular aircraft were in pieces. They would
be shipped via commercial truck to the contractors facility, repaired,
assembled, test flown , and then flown to their destinaton . This would
