-5-
b. Decontamination protocols
Decontamination procedures for PPE levels B through 0 are documented
in the ERM-West Group Health and Safety Manual . These procedures are
included in the attachment to this letter. ERM-'gest does not at this
time envision involvement with projects requiring Level A protection.
c. Drill rig cleaning
ERM-West neither o-:ins nor operates drilling equipment. However, their
drilling subcontractors are instructed to thoroughly steam clean their
drill rigs on site in the contamination reduction zone. The cleaning
is supervised by ERM-West personnel .
d. Proper sanitation
NAVC014MSTA Stockton has agreed to allow ERM-West personnel to use
sanitation in the buildings at the base. Therefore, portable sanitation
facilities are not required.
Mr. Lovell also suggested that in the future, the Navy should assure that
Contractors include any initial information available on levels of
contaminants i-n project Health and Safety Plans. This will allow the
regulatory agency's industrial hygienist to more easily follow the
Contractor's rationale in choosing personal protective equipment,
establishing work zones, and determining proper decontamination procedures.
