Pre-employment medical examinations to establish the <br /> individual ' s state of health, baseline physiological data, <br /> and ability to wear personnel protective equipment . The <br /> frequency and type of examination to be conducted thereafter <br /> should be determined by medical personnel knowledgeable in <br /> the area of toxicology. <br /> Arrangements to provide special medical examinations, care, <br /> and counseling in case of known or suspected exposures to <br /> toxic substances . Required special tests depend on the <br /> chemical substance to which the individual has been exposed. <br /> 10 . 3 . 2 EmerQen w Medical Care and Treatment <br /> The Medical Program must address emergency medical care and <br /> treatment of site personnel, including possible exposures to toxic <br /> substances and injuries resulting from accidents or physical <br /> hazards . The following items should be included in emergency care <br /> provisions : <br /> Name, address, and telephone number of the nearest medical <br /> treatment facility. This should be conspicuously posted. A <br /> map and directions to the facility, plus the travel time, <br /> should be readily available. <br /> The facility ' s ability to provide care and treatment of <br /> personnel exposed or suspected of being exposed to toxic (or <br /> otherwise hazardous) substances . If the facility lacks <br /> toxicological capability, arrangements should be made for <br /> consultant services . <br /> - Administrative arrangements for accepting patients . <br /> - Arrangements to quickly obtain ambulance, emergency, fire, <br /> and police services . Telephone numbers and procedures for <br /> obtaining these services should be conspicuously posted. <br /> - Emergency showers , eye wash fountains, and first aid <br /> equipment readily available on site . Personnel should have <br /> first aid .and medical emergency training. <br /> - Provisions for the rapid identification of the substance to <br /> which the worker has been exposed (if this has not previously <br /> been done) . This information must be given to medical <br /> personnel . <br /> Procedures for decontamination of injured workers and <br /> preventing contamination of medical personnel, equipment, and <br /> facilities . <br /> 10-5 <br />
