In order for the contractor's plan to meet
minimum health and safety requirements, the following
recommendations should be incorporated:
Exposure Monitoring Plan:
Show documentation that there is no potential for employee
overexposure. If there is a potential for employee exposure to
hazardous materials, then personal breathing zone monitoring is
required. If personal monitoring will be implemented, contractor
should describe rationales, methodologies, and equipment
calibration procedures.
Respiratory Selection Program:
Include a written PPE program, and list the requirements for such
a program. Discuss protective equipment/respirator selection.
Indicate action levels required for upgrade or downgrade of
personal protective equipment. Also, indicate the make and model
number of the respirator, its protection factor, and limitations
of its use.
Personal Protective Equipment:
NOTE* According to the manufacturer butyl gloves and Tyvek
coveralls are poor choices for skin protection against
PCB's.
Work Zone and Security Measures:
Include site and area maps with exclusion, contamination
reduction, and support zones outlined. Show location of
decontamination area.
Standard Operating Procedures:
Include activities that can be standardized due to their
repetitive nature; examples are decontamination protocol,
