Jim Pinasco
Page 2
February 1, 1989
respirator fit test procedures, equipment calibration, and drill
rig checkout.
Decontamination:
Include a more thorough description of decontamination procedures
required for materials and equipment used on site.
Sanitation•
Describe what provisions will be made to ensure proper sanitation
facilities are available for site personnel.
Resources:
The TSCD staff includes industrial hygienists in each Regional
Office who are available to assist, but not function as
consultants, in the development of SSP's. The responsibility for
the development and implementation of the SSP lies with the
contractor/responsible party. However, the TSCD industrial
hygienists are responsible for review and approval, prior to any
state activities, of the SSP and any other health and safety
considerations for a specific project when the site work is done
under a consent or remedial action order. Verbal communications
between the parties preparing the SSP and TSCD industrial
hygienists is encouraged as this usually results in more
expeditious approval of the SSP, which will then decrease the
waiting period before site activities can begin.
Contractors who are working directly for TSCD should consult
their contracts or task orders for items which may be required in
an SSP over and the basic requirements detailed in this document.
