PPE UTILIZATION REQUIREMENTS <br /> Hard Hat(ANSI Z 89.1) At all times(all PPE levels) <br /> Leather Steel-toe boots(ANSI Z 41.1) At all times(all PPE levels) <br /> Rubber Steel-toe Boots When ponded water is present,during rain events,etc., <br /> at the discretion of the Project Manager or Field Project Supervisor. <br /> Safety Glasses/Sunglasses(ANSI Z 87.1) At all times(all PPE levels,except when full-face respirators <br /> are used) <br /> Hearing Protection At all times near operating machinery(use arms length rule);when <br /> noise level exceeds 85 dB,or within 100 feet of a locomotive engine. <br /> Bright-colored LIME Traffic Safety Vest At all times(all PPE levels)(must comply with 23 CFR 634 high visibility <br /> clothing-ANSI/ISEA 107 Class 2 Lime colored vest) <br /> Chemical Resistant Gloves(Nitrile) When handling recovered NAPL. <br /> Cotton or Leather Work Gloves As needed to mitigate hand/finger hazards identified in <br /> Tailgate Safety Meeting. <br /> Rain gear;cold weather gear As necessary when working in wet conditions <br /> Tyvek or other protective suit When handling recovered NAPL or when conditions of potential <br /> exposure to contaminated soil or water exist as indicated by air <br /> monitoring(but below action levels),or by existing analytical data <br /> (Modified Level D). Required when in Level C PPE. <br /> Snake Leggings or similar leg protection When walking in vegetated areas of the site. <br /> Life Vests(personal flotation devices) When working from a boat or in water above ankle depth. <br /> Other:attire 100%cotton clothing; blue jeans;shirts with minimum 4"sleeves; long <br /> hair must be restrained; no dangling jewelry <br /> B. SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS: <br /> 1. Calibration: A qualified individual will calibrate before and after field activities the photoionization detector(PID)or flame ionization <br /> detector(FID). <br /> 2. Frequency: The breathing zone of Antea group employees on-site will be monitored every hour(at a minimum)and recorded in the <br /> Antea Group field book. Monitoring should be conducted during tasks that may result in exposure to vapors. <br /> 3. Instrumentation <br /> Instrument Breathing Zone Action Taken <br /> Reading <br /> Photoionization Total Org.Vapors <br /> detector(PID) Bkgrd-2 ppm Level D. Work may continue. <br /> or 2-50 ppm Level D. Collect benzene detector tubes. <br /> Flame ionization 50-500 ppm Level C. Air-purifying respirator with organic vapor canisters.
