Subsurface Investigation
Workplan, Former Thiemann's Service Station, 106 West Second Street,
.Ripon, California
-- - _-Ms.-McCartney,-- ---- -- -- - _.. ---
In ATC's Additional Subsurface Investigation Workplan; dated July 16, 2008, ATC
summarizes a proposed scope of work for the advancement of three vertical soil borings
utilizing Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) drilling methods. In the workplan, ATC
mentions collecting soil and groundwater samples however, ATC does not intend to
submit soil samples for chemical analysis.
Soil samples will only be characterized using CPT methods. ATC concurs with San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) that the vertical extent of
soil contamination has been sufficiently characterized, and is only ' interested in
characterizing the vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon plume in groundwater.
While the workplan indicates that approximately two groundwater samples will be
collected from each CPT boring location, the final number of samples will be determined
in the field based on information provided by.the CPT drilling activities. Additionally,
ATC concurs with advancing the first CPT boring near the identified source area,to an
approximate depth of 1.00 to 150 feet below ground surface (bgs). The remaining CPT
borings will be advanced to depths based on subsurface-conditions associated with the
first boring as long as the depths of soil types and water-bearing zones can be correlated.
