27 July 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0605
Page 2of5
On 30 December 1998, three USTs were removed from the SSSEsite by Stockton Service excavated hydrocarbon-impacted
tion
Equipment Company, Inc. (SSSE). On 19 February 949
soil from the former UST and dispenser area. AGE personnel were onsite to collect and field screen
soil samples and to direct digging procedures. Six soil samples were collected from the floor and
sidewalls of the excavation. After completion of the interim remediation, the excavation was
backfilled with clean fill material. Based upon the detection of MTBE at concentrations as great as
14 mg/kg in soil and at depth as great as 18 feet below surface grade (bsg), AGE recommended
further subsurface investigation at the site to determine MTBE impact to soil and ground water.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on analytical results of soil samples collected during the interim soil remediation excavation
procedures, further investigation is needed to delineate the vertical and horizontal petroleum
hydrocarbon-impact at the site. Assessment activities will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Ground water grab sample collection and analysis, if encountered; and
• Report preparation.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County PHS-EHD; a
health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance
Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to
mobilization, each boring location will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through
Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance five borings at the site to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent
of petroleum hydrocarbon impact. Additional borings may be required to completely delineate any
impacted soil encountered. Proposed soil boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental.Inc.
