27 July 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0605
Page 3 of 5
Based on soil contamination encountered beneath the former USTs and dispensers, AGE proposes
advancement of borings in the following locations:
• The area of the former dispenser island, located south of the former UST No.3;
• Approximately 10 feet south of the former dispenser island area;
• Approximately 10 feet northwest of former UST No. 2;
• Approximately 10 feet north of former UST No. 3; and
• Approximately 10 feet northeast of former UST No. 1.
Initially, AGE will advance one boring to a depth of approximately 70 feet bsg or to ground water,
the other four borings will be advanced to 30 feet bsg, although total depths of soil borings will be
based on field observations and field screening using an organic vapor monitor(OVM). Soil samples
will be collected from each boring at five-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg to the total depth,
excluding the boring within the excavation, where sample collection will start at 15 feet bsg. Field
procedures for advancement of borings and collection of soil/ground water samples are presented
in Section 4.1. and 4.2.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA Method 8015
Modified;
• TPH-d (diesel) and TPH-mo (motor oil) in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in
accordance with EPA Method 8020; and
• Fuel oxygenates including MTBE,tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPS),
ethyl tertian-butyl ether(ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME) in accordance with
EPA Method 8260 Modified.
3.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of the final laboratory results, a report will be prepared
presenting the findings of the investigation. The report will include a description of the work
performed and results of the sampling and analysis. Conclusions and applicable recommendations
Advanced GeoEn%ironmental.Inc.
