Dave Deaner
Page 2
plan to proceed with excavation. At no time was reimbursement
from the Cleanup Fund mentioned or I would have advised them to
obtain pre-approval for the work. The extent of excavation work
was their decision. It was performed as interim remedial action
with PHS/EHD approval .
On September 1, 1995 WHF Environmental Consultants, Inc.
conducted sampling of the excavation sidewalls and bottom under
the direction of Michael Infurna, PHS/EHD.
This site has sandy soil which has been shown to be conducive to
vapor extraction at other sites in San Joaquin County. Prior to
the excavation activities, the previously installed monitoring
wells were destroyed. New monitoring wells have been installed
and groundwater contamination still exists, but at lower levels .
Future site work will be based on new information as it is
gathered.
If a Corrective Action Plan is necessary, a feasibility study to
evaluate at least two remedial alternatives and their cost-
effectiveness will be required as specified in the California
Code of Regulations, Title 23 , Division 3 , Chapter 16 .
If you have any questions contact me at (209) 468-3449 .
E
Donna Heran, REHS, Director k
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, Lead Senior REHS
Site Mitigation Unit
t
i
i
t
