22 April 2002 i AGE-NC Project No 98-0511 Page 2 of 7 2 1 1 Soil and Grab Ground Water Sample Collection Discrete soil samples were collected using the Geoprobe push-driven 2-Inch diameter soil sampler fitted with four six-inch long brass sleeves at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 5 feet bsg In all soil bonngs Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping and sealing with tape Each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with soil boring location,depth,time,date and sampler's Initials and was stored in a chilled container under ice Soil encountered in the borings was visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(USCS) Additionally, soil samples were field-screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM) Selected soil samples were logged on a chain-of-custody, transported to a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory and analyzed for I • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA Methods 503018015-modified, • Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8021, and I • Fuel oxygenates - MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIRE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethanol and methanol in accordance with EPA Method 8260B Grab ground water samples were collected at the water table from borings B-6 and B-9, and at total depth from borings B-5, B-6 and B-9 The samples were collected utilizing a Geoprobe water sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch diameter 0 01-inch slotted temporary well screen The groundwater sample was extracted by lowering a Teflon hose equipped with a ball-valve through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen section ' Upon retrieval,the sample was transferred into EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials,containing 0 5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative,labeled with the boring designation,date,time,and sampler's initials and were placed in a chilled container under Ice The ground water samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form,and were transported to a DHS-certified laboratory and analyzed for ' • TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015M, • BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA method 8021, and • Fuel oxygenates, including MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, ethanol and methanol in accordance with EPA Method 8260B Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
