i 3.3.2 Drilling and Soil Sampling The soil borings were advanced on January 2_and 3; 2008 by V &W Drilling, Lodi, California. V&W mobilized a truck-mounted hollow-stem auger drilling rig to the site and drilled three soil borings under the supervision of this office. Figure 6 depicts the location of the three soil borings. Soil samples were recovered at five foot depth intervals and where;pronounced lithologic changes were noted. Soil samples were recovered in 6-inch long, 2-inch diameter brass liners. Following recovery, the liners were sealed with Teflon sheets,plastic end caps and tape. Sampling equipment was cleaned with Alquinox and rinsed with distilled water between sample recoveries. The samples were then labeled and preserved-in a cooled ice chest. Pertinent data was recorded on both the sampling log and chain of custody document: Procedures used to log and sample the individual soil borings are outlined in Appendix 4. Procedures used to collect groundwater grab samples and sample management are outlined in Appendix 3. Drilling was conducted under the direction of a California certified engineering geologist who logged the borings in accordance with the convention of the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) (Table 1). Table 2-presents a tabulation of the soil borings drilled and sampled as well as a rationale for placement and summary of results. Soil samples were screened in the field using a MiniRae 2000 photoionization detector(PID), serial number 4132 in order to provide a field.determination of the presence of volatile organic compounds. Logs of the individual soil borings are presented in Appendix 4. A total of forty one (41) soil samples were collected from the soil borings_ The soil samples were analyzed by Kiff Analytical LLC, Davis, California. A total of three groundwater grab samples were collected from each of the soil borings.
